Comparing new and traditional thermal insulation materials, what are the advantages of aerogel blanket?

With the development of aerogels, aerogels are gradually commercialized. Aerogel Insulation Blanket is one of the aerogel products, used for thermal insulation in construction, industrial equipment, petrochemical and other fields. Compared with traditional thermal insulation materials, what are the advantages of aerogel blanket?

1. Aerogel blanket and glass wool

Aerogel blanket and glass wool are both Class A non-combustible materials and have excellent fire resistance and fire resistance. However, the maximum operating temperature of aerogel blanket is 1400°C, which is higher than the 538°C of glass wool. The thermal conductivity of aerogel is 0.017(w/m.k)/25℃, and that of glass wool is 0.033~0.040(w/m.k)/25℃. Therefore, aerogel blanket has more advantages than glass wool in terms of thermal insulation performance.

2. Aerogel blanket and rock wool

The maximum operating temperature of rock wool is 800°C, and the thermal conductivity is 0.037~0.043(w/m.k)/25°C. Therefore, the aerogel blanket has better high temperature resistance and thermal insulation performance. In addition, the density of aerogel blanket is very small, only 3 kilograms per cubic meter, and the density of rock wool is 80-200KG per cubic meter, so the load of rock wool is heavier.

3. Aerogel blanket and rubber plastic

The operating temperature of rubber and plastic is -40~105°C. It is a B1 and B2 grade material with a thermal conductivity of about 0.034w/m·k. Therefore, it is not as good as aerogel in terms of high temperature resistance and thermal insulation performance. Rubber plastic, like aerogel, is dust-free and lightweight, and its waterproof performance is better than rock wool and glass wool.

4. Aerogel blanket and polyurethane insulation board

The operating temperature of polyurethane insulation board is -96~200℃, the fire protection grade is Class B, and the thermal conductivity is 0.018~0.023w/(m.k). Its thermal insulation performance is similar to aerogel blanket, but its high temperature resistance is not as good as aerogel blanket. In addition, the polyurethane insulation board is made of harder material, so it is not as flexible as aerogel blanket.
